We Have Boots reprend la structure narrative et le parti pris cinématographique de Raise the Umbrellas (2016) qui documente avec précision le mouvement de 79 jours qui avait fait trembler le gouvernorat d’Hong Kong en 2014 tout en contextualisant le soulèvement. Nous avions rencontré le cinéaste Hongkongais en 2018 pour ce film.

Tout en revenant sur le mouvement des parapluies de 2014 pour le suffrage universel, We Have Boots se concentre sur l’ère post-parapluie et des conséquences que ce mouvement ont eues sur la population, sur les manifestants et sur leurs chefs de file qui ont subi des poursuites judiciaires en emprisonnement, des disqualifications politiques, ainsi que sur la résurgence des protestations massives de 2019.
