Berlinale Director Dieter Kosslick signs the “5050×2020” Pledge

On Saturday, February 9th, 2019, Festival Director Dieter Kosslick signed the 5050×2020 pledge to work for increased gender equality at the Festival and the Market. The signing took place in the Meistersaal at the Gender, Genre and Big Budgets event, organised by Women in Film and Television (WIFT), and the Dortmund | Cologne International Women’s Film Festival. With 5050×2020, the Berlinale commits to working towards equal gender representation in directorships and selection committees by 2020, and to publishing statistics on gender distribution in film submissions and selections.

For the 2019 festival year, a detailed “Gender Evaluation” survey of the programme for the public in the disciplines of directing, production, screenplay, cinematography, and montage was conducted. In addition, projects and participants of initiatives, directorships and selection committees, as well as statistics from previous Competition years were analysed.

The complete Gender Evaluation survey can be downloaded in PDF version here.
