The 17th World Soundtrack Awards have been awarded in Ghent on the 18th October . Jóhann Jóhannsson and Rupert Gregson-Williams won Best Film Composer of the Year and Best Television Composer of the Year respectively, while David Shire received the Lifetime Achievement Award for his entire career. Guest of honour during the concert following the awards ceremony was jazz composer Terence Blanchard.

On the remote East African island of Ukerewe in the middle of Lake Victoria, people with albinism whose voices have been largely unheard, are now writing and voicing their experiences into songs. Ukerewe is the largest inland island in Africa and is part of Tanzania.
This East African country has the highest prevalence of albinism in the world: about one in every 1,400, compared to the US’s one in 17,000. In Africa the prevalence is estimated to range between one in 1100 to one in 15,000.

Film Fest Gent was founded in 1974 by Ben Ter Elst (Studio Skoop) and Dirk De Meyer (Universitaire Filmclub), joined by Jacques Dubrulle, and has since developed into one of Europe’s most prominent film events. Every year in October, the festival presents some 80 features and 50 shorts from all over the world. A range of different film programmes are showcased, attracting over 130,000 viewers each year. With its focus on film music, the festival has its own unique place among international festivals. Every year, the festival organises film music concerts, giving composers of film scores the platform they deserve. Trade paper Variety placed the festival in its top 50 must attend festivals of the world because of this focus on (film) music.
Since 2001, Film Fest Gent has been organising he World Soundtrack Awards, which are the most prestigious soundtrack awards in the world. Each year, the best composers of film music are honoured and receive international recognition for their work.

Le musicien franco-japonais, établit à Zurich, Frantz Loriot explore son instrument, le violon-alto, dans un cadre exclusivement acoustique et crée des microcosmes sonores et des textures proches des musiques électroacoustiques par l’utilisation de préparations et techniques développées au cours des quinze dernières années. Cette recherche méticuleuse a été initialement motivée par son intérêt pour les musiques électroacoustiques et acousmatiques. Avec le temps, il a creusé un chemin musical profond et personnel.

Une bonne occasion de partir à sa découverte est le Festival cinémas d’Afrique qui a lieu à Lausanne du 17 au 20 août 2017.

Am 17. August startet das Afac Music und Film Sommerfestival des Arab Funds for Arts and Culture (AFAC) mit dem Auftaktkonzert des Musikers Khyam Allami (Oud, Buzuq, Electronics) zusammen mit Layale Chaker (Violine), Christine Zayed (Qanun), Daniele Camarda (Bass) and Andrea Belfi (Drums & Percussions) im Freiluftkino Kreuzberg. Im Anschluss wird der tunesische Spielfilm As I Opern My Eyes von Leyla Bouzid gezeigt, der die Geschichte einer jungen Musikerin am Vorabend der arabischen Revolution erzählt – mit Musik von Khyam Allami.
